Yesterday’s skeletons became tomorrow’s turkeys

Stop by your local pharmacy chain the day after your favorite holiday.
When the candy is seventy percent off.
I would do this as a ritual when I was young. November first, I couldn’t wait to get to the store. Holiday handoffs fascinated me. I loved watching all of the employees frantically redecorating shelves and walls with swag for the next event.
It’s like we’re collectively celebrating by moving from one discounted seasonable display to the next. Yesterday’s skeletons became tomorrow’s turkeys. Talk about a horror movie.
This display of corporate efficiency always left me in awe. I swear I was just here yesterday buying fake cobwebs, and now I am suddenly hit with a two for one sale on eggnog mix.
Walgreen’s must have had an overnight crew doing the graveyard shift. These dedicated team members have ensured that no customer was forced to live even one second of the new month without the option to buy a chocolate jesus for six dollars.
I heard valentine’s day items have already moved into storage, set to hit shelves at midnight after we finish celebrating the birth of our lord.
God, I love this country.
Remember, things don’t always need to linger around to hold value. Their beauty is in the single moment they’re meant for.
Is that enough for you? Or are you someone who ignores the effort to rescue ratio?
I think the secret is eliminating the phrase, just in case, from our vocabulary.
Just think how many things we keep around, just in case.
You never know. You might need it.
Wrong. You almost certainly won’t need it. That’s mostly hypothetical value, which blurs the lines between genuinely useful and what’s cluttering up space.
Let it go. Even if something comes up and you do need it, you’ll be fine.
Remember, the reason to delete the phrase just in case, is that it reinforces trust in adaptability. Especially when something unexpected arrives.
Now instead of trying to anticipate every possibility, you learn to trust your resilience resources.
If there’s something you’re only saving, just in case, get rid of it today. Close that pest open loop. When things serve their intended purpose, enjoy your moment of completion.
And then move on.
What are of your life needs to recalculate its effort to rescue ratio?
