Err on the side of possibility, not permission

IMG_1080

Are you demanding certainty before moving forward?

Look, I understand there’s a survivorship bias. The odds of success are notoriously low.

Just remember, the fact that it’s happened means that it’s possible. That’s the kind of faith you need if you want to create things in this world. It might not work. Hell, it probably won’t work. On the other hand, it might change everything. So let’s make the damn thing and find out.

What else are you going to do all day? Wouldn’t you rather go to bed each night knowing you tried, knowing you killed something before it had a chance?

Don’t tell me you’ve been doing this for so long that you can’t even recognize the potential for greatness when it’s sitting right on your face.

That’s a talent too, you know. Recognizing possibility. Identifying raw talent and placing it in an environment where it can develop, evolve and thrive. You don’t even have to be the one creating things. You could be the one who makes bets on imperfect but interesting work. Someone who doubles down on non obvious choices and trusts the long game.

I understand not everyone is skilled at making things. No problem. So be the one who says yes to those who do. Have a little vision. Minimize the barriers to creating new things and reduce the effort of completing version one.

Err on the side of possibility, not permission.

If you think something could be great, trust that instinct. Breathe life into that thing. If only to find out what happens when it takes flight.

And if you can’t see its value yet, use that as your reason to make it, not kill it.

Demand comes after exposure, not before.

How does emergent utility show up in your life?
